"Large Oil On Canvas With Coeval Frame By Raff. Mythological Scene, Rome Mid-17th Century."
This fascinating seventeenth-century Roman painting was executed by a talented painter active in the mid-seventeenth century in Rome linked to the historicist and mythological painting of Alessandro Turchi known as l'Orbetto (Verona 1578 - Rome 1649), probably a follower of his who takes up his compositions and worthy of further study. The scenographic setting of the figures in the foreground with cadenced postures that direct the viewer's attention towards the central part where a woman lies surrounded by four maidservants rushed to help is beautiful. In the background, among the trees of a grove, two other figures assist the scene, while in the background a rocky landscape stands out with a twilight village.
The measurements of the canvas are 133 x 100, while those including its gilded and sandblasted Roman frame and coeval with the painting are 160 x 123.
The painting was recently cleaned and relined by the restoration laboratory with which we have been collaborating for years.
We enclose the historical certificate of authenticity with the sale.
