"Satsuma 19th Century Incense Burner"
Beautiful late 19th century Satsuma incense burner with classic decor of the period. Samurai with a friendly air as befits their status as warriors and a Geisha dressed in her finest attire. The dominant colors are brown and gold, but if you pay attention you will find the whole multicolored palette specific to Satsuma productions : orange, purple, green and a few touches of deep blue. The gilding is very present and it should be noted the numerous white dots in relief which are also the mark of many Japanese productions. The two side grips and the one on the lid are golden Fô Dogs or rather Guardian Lions borrowed from China... The piece bears a square reddish-brown stamp as its signature. The whole is in good condition, we will mainly note on the Chiens de Fô a slight wear of the gilding which is proof of the frequent use of the object. The last photos reveal an old, state-of-the-art restoration of the lid. The close-ups clearly show the staples which are actually melted into the decor. It is a beautiful object with a strong presence and strong decorative power which adapts very well to a slightly elevated location.
