"American Winter Landscape 1951 Vintage Oil Painting By Impressionist Master"
Peter Kurbatov (1907 – 1985), was a talented painter, graphic artist and writer. He lived a truly eventful life full of creative exploration. Despite the fact that this landscape was painted in 1951, during his stay in the USA, unobtrusive nuances of the Russian school of painting are discernible in it - the color scheme of the painting, the construction of composition and perspective. Oil paints are naneseny with confident brushstrokes on art paperboard. The subtly breathing edge of frosty air and perspective is adjacent to the restraint of the general mood of the landscape. Starting from realism and with his attention to detail, the painter fills the landscape with spontaneity and lightness. Vintage oil painting on paperboard, signed lower right, framed.

Kurbatov, in 1924-1929 he studied at the painting faculty of the Leningrad Higher Art and Technical Institute (Academy of Arts). He received the title of artist-painter for his thesis "Funeral of victims of the Civil War". According to the art critic V. Zavalishin in the newspaper "Russian Thought", in the late 1930s, the artist was arrested by the NKVD and sentenced to 10 years in a correctional labor camp. During the Great Patriotic War, he escaped from the camp and reached Sweden. According to other sources, he lived in Gatchina near St. Petersburg, and with the outbreak of the war, finding himself in the occupied territory, fled to Revel (now Tallinn), and from there to Stockholm. In Stockholm, he became famous as the author of realistic landscapes and salon portraits. He has held several solo exhibitions also in Paris. In the late 1940s he moved to the United States and settled in Miami Beach, Florida. He continued his artistic activities. In 1954 he held an exhibition of portraits in Washington. He wrote stories and poems and gave public readings.
