Heavy and comfortable Ghoum, superb Indo-Persian in tight wool measuring 140 cm wide by 220 cm long, hand knotted around 1980 in very good condition.
The beginning of the manufacturing of Ghom carpets in Iran took place in this city around 1920/1930 on the initiative and perseverance of the knotters and merchants of Kashan.
Our model uses the criteria of the Ghoum of Iran, as well as a magnificent quality of very tightly knotted wool.
We also find a number of similarities in the medallions and borders with the Kashan type.
Our model has velvet and selvedges in very good condition.
Initially the manufacturing in Iran of these beautiful, very resistant carpets is certainly recent.
But the skilled and precise knotters as well as the “Ostads” cardboard designers have imposed their know-how thanks to the perfection of their work and the breadth of the range of designs and colors.
In India they recreated the same boxes and the know-how of immense quality and precision for Indian carpets did the rest.
# Second holiest city in Iran, 150 km from Tehran, Ghom is a major theological center.
The knot used is the Persian knot tied very tightly on very good quality fine wool.
The decorations of plants, flowers, intertwined plants and animals, as well as the use of wool mixed with silk are done regularly.
Each type of design remains stylized and the use of colors on the ghoum is always very harmonious
## The floral ensemble in wine color, apricot on an ivory background, is composed of flowers, interlacing, palm, almond green , blue and pink.
The whole offers the impression of a Persian garden, flowerbeds, central fountain, paths along the pendants...., classic Persian.
A large, delicate medallion ends with two large halberd-shaped pendants.
The purple, wine and curry spandrels on a midnight blue background and the border with an almost purple wine background lined with two flowery blue braids are of the most beautiful effect; Marketing is done under several names:
Qom, Ghom, Gom, Qum, Kum, and Ghoum.
