"Pendulum By Lemerle-charpentier In Paris “threatening Love”"
19th century clock in cherry red marble and topped with a silvered bronze group entitled “Menacing Love” after Etienne-Maurice Falconet. Clock signed Lemerle-Charpentier in Paris composed of a fluted column carrying a round dial with gilded Roman numerals on a marble background, and ornamentation of gilded bronzes. This sculpture represents Cupid, a winged angel who symbolizes the god of Love, sitting on a mound and looking very mischievous. His right index finger is brought to his mouth, he demands silence while with his other hand he extracts an arrow from his quiver to make the person it is going to hit fall in love. The marble commissioned by Madame de Pompadour in 1757 for the gardens of the Hôtel d'Evreux, now the Elysée Palace, is today kept at the Louvre Museum.
