Object description :

"Claude Galle Pair Of Flambeaux Candlesticks Louis XVI Directoire Period Gilt Bronze Late 18th Century"
Attributed to Claude GALLE or RAVRIO Pair of candlesticks with fluted stem and vase Gilt bronze Paris, Louis XVI period H. 26 diam, 13cm Our pair of candlesticks rests on a circular base with motifs of inverted leaves, the body decorated with flutes, the binet in the shape of a vase chiseled with two scrapers and a frieze of pearls. The attribution to Claude Galle or RAVRIO Our pair of torches is a variant of a pair kept in the castle museum in Fontainebleau. This pair dating from the reign of Louis XVI entered the castle in 1810 and then furnished the apartment of the King of Naples. Another variation also furnished the bedroom of Madame, Duchess of Angoulême as early as 1817. According to Jean-Pierre Samoyault, despite the unspecified provenance in the archives of the Garde-Meuble Royal, it would seem that this type of candlestick with fluted stem and inverted leaves with variations was delivered by both Claude Galle and Ravrio.
