Object description :

"SALERON (Salière) EN ETAIN - ROUEN, XVIII ème s"

SALERON (or salt shaker) in pewter with a moving pedestal with an octagonal base and a cup with a molded edge.
City control mark: crowned C / 84 / R. (C for common tin / 84 for 1784 and initial R of Rouen).
Hallmark of Pierre Gaspard LAMARE received master in 1767: crowned nautilus / P.G.L.
Height: 6.5cm.
ROUEN (Upper Normandy), 1784 or 1785

In very good condition and clearly marked.
Rare object in pewter material and most often unmarked.
In ROUEN, unlike the vast majority of towns in the kingdom, the regulations relating to the control mark published in 1691 have been relatively well applied and the vintages of the controls have been regularly updated. We know the control mark of 1786, which allows us to precisely date this salt cellar.
