"Charles"
FLABELLUM SPARK ARREST HAND SCREEN CIRCA 1830 Hand screen in bronze and paper of English origin, used to protect against the heat of a fireplace fire around 1830. It is in the form of a candlestick with inside a tube containing a circular fan called flambellum intended to be fixed on the support in the shape of a fleur-de-lys. This support can tilt slightly to the left or to the right. It also serves as a screw cap. Everything is in the so-called troubadour or neo-Gothic style typical of the reign of Charles X and the beginning of that of Louis Philippe, a period strongly marked by ambient Anglomania. The Duchess of Berry was also the leading figure. The screen itself is made of marbled paper and was recently replaced. It remains an object to be handled with caution.
