The religious rites of the Dogon revolve around four main cults: the Lébé for fertility, the Wagem for the ancestors under the authority of the patriarch, the Binou for the spirit world, and the society of Awa masks for funerals. The “dama” ceremony aims to restore order after a bereavement. The Dogon created animal masks to protect themselves from the victim's soul, called "nyama". The Walu mask, symbol of order, dissuades spectators from getting too close to the dancers. A pantomime then tells the legend of the mythical walu, and many villages have this mask with varied meanings.
A universal base (35€) or custom-made (45€) can be ordered with the mask.
