BLADE: it was manufactured at the Klingenthal Arms Manufacture, as evidenced by the inscriptions and hallmarks. After a short ricasso of 1.6 cm, the blade has a diamond-shaped section whose edges meet at the tip. Two parallel fullers in the center of the blade over a large third of its length.
At the level of the ricasso, we find:
On one side "Coulaux et Cie" (inscription a little worn) and control mark with the star H
On the other side "Klingenthal" and mark with the star C.
This type of marking therefore places us in the years 1845 and following. The wide shape of the blade, its length and the fullers present on only part of the length of the blade correspond to a blade for a staff officer.
The blade is sharp and has tiny nicks here and there on the edges.
Length of the blade 86 cm, width at the ricasso = 2.5 cm, thickness at the ricasso = 8.6 mm
GUARD: it is a bronze guard, the quillons of which are trilobed. In these quillons, 5-pointed stars. In the center of the hilt a diamond (eye of providence) in which we could also see a pyramid seen in perspective (the 5th angle therefore being hidden...)
POMMEL: It is trefoiled and is decorated with a triangle or "delta “mute, that is to say devoid of any “visible” decoration.
GRIP : It is made of ebony and has 5 hollow grooves on each main face and 3 hollow grooves on each side face. At each end, we find a brass ferrule decorated with a frieze of chiseled flowers with 8 petals (should we see an allusion to the 8 peaks of the cubic stone?)
In conclusion, this weapon (since its blade actually a real weapon) is sympathic, full of meaning at a modest price.
