" Paris, Robustel & Rollin, 1690-1738. 6 volumes in-4 COMPLETE Sébastien Lenain de Tillemont (1637-1698), born in Paris, studied at Port-Royal, where he followed the rational and Cartesian teaching of Lancelot and Nicole, teaching which will develop in him a taste for research historical. He was ordained priest in 1676. After the dispersion of the Solitaires of Port-Royal, he settled in Montreuil at the Château de Tillemont. It was there that he wrote his History of the Emperors as well as the Memoirs to be used in ecclesiastical history. He is also the author of a biography of Saint-Louis. It is said that the ardor at work of this Jansenist writer was such that "the tiles under his desk bore the imprints of his feet".
