Alexis Vollon studied under his father Antoine Vollon from 1885. He exhibited in Paris at the Salon Des Artistes Francais and was a hors concours member of his group, a member of the committee and panel of judges. He archived a honourable mention in 1885 and was awarded a third class medal. He was made Chevalier of the Legion d’honneur in 1900 at the Exhibition Universelle.Vollon deserved greater public recognition around the time of the impressionists as his subject matter chiefly genre scenes, figures and landscapes, especially were similar to that school of painting. His landscape notably those of the seine in Paris e.g. the seine at the pont desists-Peres and the seine at the pont Alexandre III have an indisputable atmospheric quality.
