This is an Indian
Maduvu Buckler or Parrying shield, a self defence weapon favored by both the Marathas and Bhil people Jogis and fakirs. The more common name is
Madu and it consists of two blackbuck antilope horns pointing in opposite directions with the horn tops reinforced with two small spearheads made of steel. The handle section is covered with a thin steel
dhal shield of 13,5cm that has 6 brass bosses. Overall size is 82cm. Condition is very good. From a Belgian (Ostend) private collection. A very unusual and decorative item. This is a Non-CITES listed item.
