"Interesting Cast Iron Bell From Poitiers "the City Of A Hundred Bell Towers". Mid-19th Century."
Interesting 19th century cast iron bell signed Clément Jadot, founder in Poitiers-1850, himself son of Henri Jadot, founder in Poitiers-1835. Here is a fine example of the French bell tower heritage and more particularly that of Poitiers, the "city of a hundred bell towers" as the bells adorned religious but also civil buildings in the 19th and 20th centuries (churches and convents, campaniles, bell towers-walls). but also colleges, schools and town halls at a time of secularization...). This bell which is "run on the fly" made it possible to punctuate regular time. Dedicated to "Mademoiselle Cenon" almost on the shoulder, it is signed "Clément Jadot" on the lower part of the dress. The fork and the belly are nicely drawn while the flap is in good condition under the pliers. The handles are drawn. This object with multiple functions, uses and symbols since antiquity is not only a temporal marker but also a very strong element of identity. 32 centimeters in height the bell alone 10 cm in height the handles
