"Grandees Of Spain And Spanish Soldiers On A Beach By Léon Du Paty."
On a wide sandy beach facing a rough sea under high gray clouds, three elegant horsemen, high-ranking Spanish aristocrats, possibly "grandes of Spain", followed by helmeted soldiers question a fisherman standing on the beach...Rare scene, from the 17th century, of Spanish soldiers and nobles on a beach, perhaps from the 80 Years' War between Spain and the Netherlands or the aftermath of the conquest of South America by the Spanish. Oil on canvas painted by Léon Du Paty. (1849-1920), it is signed lower and right L.Du Paty and dated 1871. The painter was then 22 years old. Léon du Paty is listed in Benezit and is a specialist in this type of painting. Elegant composition and representation of characters with large hats and horses, very well treated in their posture. Beautiful painting, very pleasant. Chassis, canvas and the very beautiful golden frame are original. A thin crack in the barrier required repair and patching, with no lack of paint as it was edge to edge. Dimensions outside frame: 43x60 cms. With frame: 64x81 cm
