"Cuban Officer's Machete, Circa 1890"
Very particular type of sword having equipped an officer, probably Mambí, during the Cuban war of independence at the end of the 19th century. Finely squared black horn handle, chiseled brass guard and pommel, strong blade with beveled end. The blade bears a hallmark representing two griffins facing each other, H&S R for Hornsberg and Spier in Remscheid, a town neighboring Solingen in Germany also a steel producer. Good condition, nickel plating of the blade still present, absence of sheath.
