Covered Ewer In Openwork Brass, Ht 47 Cm, Old Kashmiri Art, 19th Century, Rare

Ewer with a pyriform body on a pedestal, equipped with a cast brass esse handle, ribbed pouring spout topped with a bronze feline, cat or tiger head, and covered with a faceted fretel dome.
At the top of the handle a small red copper snake rises towards the fretel.
The entire object in openwork bronze decorated with plants, trees of life, interlacing and friezes.
# A boat decoration is inscribed numerous times on the ewer:
It is there to symbolize the transport of souls in the rite of passage to the other world.
The Hindu moon boat transports souls into the new incarnation.
It is associated with lunar cycles and the Moon goddesses who hold the power of life and rebirth, through which immortality is bestowed on the individual.
Under this decor made up like a chain mail cut and convexed with dexterity for the whole of this room, hides a copper container receiving the water for ablutions. This ewer was and is mainly used for ablutions, washing the face and hands, during religious ceremonies.
