"Paperolles Reliquary - Virgin And Child - Normandy - Mid-19th Century"
Around a white wax representation of the Virgin and Child placed in a niche, seven ex-ossibus relics are organized. Namely, those of Saint Geroald or Geroald, probably bishop of the diocese of Evreux then abbot of Fontenelle in 775, those of Saint Pair, bishop of Avranches alias Saint Paterne, those of Saint Germain probably de la mer, bishop of Coutances and finally those of Saint Godard, probably archbishop of Rouen. The geographical concordance of these four relics of men of the Church allows us to attribute this work to a Norman monastery. Also visible are relics of Saint Mark the Evangelist, Saint Monica and an unidentified Saint. Wooden frame with natural fruit molded strip.
Dimensions of the whole 28.5 cm by 21.
This reliquary in good condition cannot be sent by post, due to the traditional fragility of rolled paper assemblies.
