"Huile Sur Toile Dans Son Beau Cadre bois et stuc Doré. Scène Orientaliste. XIX E Siècle"
Charming oil on canvas - orientalist scene - in its wooden and gilded stucco frame and dating from the 1860s-1880s. In an oriental landscape of which we can see in the background the North African coasts, the Mediterranean Sea and the Kasbah. A veiled fatma and her child perched on a horse in colorful clothing are escorted at a walking pace by two servants wearing red chechias. The liveliness of the colors in blue and ocher tones (warm tones but also contrasts characteristic of 19th century orientalist painting) as well as the finesse of the brushwork make this oil a moving and surprisingly "living" story. This painting characterizes the European dream and the "journey" since the conquest of Algeria in 1830 by the France of Charles X then by the exploration of lands and resources during the European colonial adventure. Interesting to note the name of the color merchant on the back, an art craftsman complementary to the painter. A painting in the tradition of fresco artist Théodore Chassériau whose work inspired many romantic novelists such as Théophile Gautier... Unsigned work. Frame in "good condition" despite some small gaps (see photos...). This is a "beautiful" painting... Particularly elegant on a wooden easel. oil only: 21 cm/15 cm
