Large Portrait Of Ulrika Eleonora, Queen Of Sweden (1688-1741) 18th Century

Very beautiful and rare period portrait of the queen of Sweden Ulrique-Eléonore.

This portrait is of very good quality, the queen’s garment is finely executed especially lace.
The queen wears the ermine coat symbol of her rank, she is also adorned with jewelry.

The colors are bright.

With its original canvas and original chassis, the portrait is in good condition. 

It is sold without frame.

Ulrika Eleonora, Queen of Sweden (1688-1741)

The last daughter of King Charles XI and Queen Ulrich-Eleanor of Denmark, she succeeded her brother Charles XII in 1718 after having had to agree to abolish the absolute monarchy. It accepts the new constitution that limits royalty, sharing power between the monarch, the Senate and the states. She must also renounce the hereditary character of the crown for her and her successors.

Married in 1715 to Frederick I, landgrave of Hesse-Cassel, she abdicated in his favour in 1720. Her reign and that of her husband ushered in the period known as the Era of Freedom, which was a period of economic growth and cultural development, but of the disappearance of monarchical power, which had become purely symbolic.

Without descendant, she then lives in retirement, indulging in the pleasure of study.

She died in 1741 of smallpox, and with her died the Swedish branch of the Two Bridges dynasty.
