Germain Eugène Bonneton was born in Tournon-sur-Rhône on September 18, 1874 and died in Pithiviers on October 23, 1915. He is the son of Germain Eugène Bonneton and Marie Eliza Dos, cafe owners. His father died two months before his birth. Arriving in Paris in 1898, he studied at the Beaux-Arts de Paris in the workshops of Albert Maignan and Luc-Olivier Merson. A member of the Salon des artistes français, he obtained a mention in 1900 and a silver medal in 1913. Mobilized in August 1914, in December he was appointed sergeant in the 145th territorial infantry regiment. He died at the Pithiviers military hospital on October 23, 1915, from an illness contracted during military operations, and was recognized as "died for France". He is known for his views of Paris and its region. His works are notably preserved in Paris at the Carnavalet museum, at the Museum of Fine Arts in Tours and at the Chartreuse museum in Douai.
