Melancholy Bronze print with golden patina Cast Colin Paris Art Nouveau period Mars Valett, pseudonym of François Marius Vallet, born November 5, 1869 in Chambéry, where he died March 15, 1957, is a French caricaturist and sculptor. Son of a Chamberian marble worker, Mars Valett was a student at the Paris School of Fine Arts. Working as a caricaturist during his youth, he worked for numerous Parisian publications such as the newspaper Soleil du Dimanche. Mars Valett has won several awards at the Salon of French Artists and that of the National Society of Fine Arts. He was also the curator of the Savois museum in 1904 and of Charmettes in 1907, then of the Savois museum in 1940. He was one of the founding members of the Society of Friends of Old Chambéry in 1933. During his Parisian life, he received in his workshop the visits, among others, of Auguste Rodin and Albert Bartholomé. He is very close with the painter François Cachoud and the sculptor Joseph Bernard (1866-1931).
