"Scottish Plaid Brooch "
Lovely 19th century plaid brooch, in silver, set with Scottish stones. An important smoky quartz from Cairngorn occupies the center of the jewel, surrounded by rock crystals cut into a bezel-set cabochon and mounted on a paillon to create different colors. The whole is topped with a crown decorated with small cut stones. A Scottish hallmark typical of this production is inscribed on the reverse. Scottish brooches were brought into fashion by Queen Victoria after she acquired Balmoral Castle in 1852. This one is large, can also be hung, and in perfect condition.
