"Alphonse Giroux Box In Paris, 1st Empire Period "
Rare box signed Alphonse Giroux in Paris. The lid is decorated with a miniature representing a portrait of a man. The box is in gilded metal finely engraved with flowers, foliage and scrolls. Four characters adorn the sides of the box. Note a slight dent on the cover visible on one side on the edge of the miniature, see the close-up photos. This does not detract from the magnificence of this exceptional box. It measures 4,92 inches long, 3,74 inches wide and 3,34 inches high.Note on Alphonse Giroux: The house "A. Giroux in Paris", was at the beginning of the 19th century a famous store of tablets and cabinetmaking whose activity would flourish until the end of the Second Empire, with the father then the son. it was a real reference for boxes, various and varied cases and small decorative or writing furniture, prized by the bourgeoisie and the nobility. It was at Giroux's that Charles X and Louis XVIII chose the gifts of the young princes: Princess Louise and the Duke of Bordeaux. Alphonse Giroux has won numerous national and international awards.
