Object description :

"Important Cabinet Stamped Beurdeley In Paris"
Louis-Auguste Alfred Beurdeley (1808-1883) and his son Alfred-Emmanuel Beurdeley (1847-1919)

Cabinet forming a small cupboard in the Louis XV style in geometric marquetry composed of diamonds and chevrons made of rosewood and mahogany, all decorated by a very rich rococo-inspired bronze decoration, very finely chiseled and gilded.

Note that the bronze ornamentation is applied to a background of amaranth, matching the shapes of the latter very exactly.

Beautiful crossbow facade, delicately curved sides.

Opening two doors.

Inlaid tray surrounded by a magnificent gilded bronze ingot mold.

Solid oak frame.

Stamped twice on the rear uprights, bronzes stamped BY on the reverse, rear of the ingot mold stamped A Beurdeley Fils.

Exceptional work from the second half of the 19th century by one of the most prestigious cabinetmakers of his time.

Very good condition, entirely restored by our workshop, mercury-gilded bronzes (original gilding).

Bibliography
Alfred-Emmanuel Beurdeley (1847-1919), was in 1875 the collaborator, then the successor of his father, Louis-Auguste Beurdeley, one of the main cabinetmakers of the Second Empire, essentially manufacturing 18th-style furniture and designated as the “star” of exhibitions and the “favorite of royal and imperial families”. Alfred carried out the same type of work as his father, he also distinguished himself not only as an outstanding bronzier but also as one of the most famous art collectors. He participated brilliantly in the Universal Exhibition of 1878, where compared to the most famous artists of the time, such as Dasson, Grohé, Sauvresy and Fourdinois, he won the gold medal. Crowned with glory, he even opened a branch in New York. In 1883, following his very notable participation in the Universal Exhibition in Amsterdam, “Alfred Beurdeley, manufacturer of artistic bronzes” was appointed to the rank of Knight of the National Order of the Legion of Honor; he was then praised both by the government and by contemporary critics. His last major event in which he produced was the Universal and International Exhibition of 1889.
