Valsuani” on the plinth on the right Numbered 3/8 Height: 35 cm Length: 20 cm – Width: 8 cm Biography: Born July 28, 1928 in Chaumont in Haute Marne and died October 13, 2004 in Besançon in Doubs, Georges Oudot is a French painter-sculptor. After studying at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Besançon, he entered the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in 1946 where he was a student of Marcel Gimond and Alfred Janniot. Then he returned to Besançon where he set up his workshop. He is considered one of the most significant representatives of contemporary figurative sculpture. He is also the author of numerous engravings and lithographs and of several medals. He produced numerous portraits including those of Pierre Mendès France, Edgard Faure (whose academician's sword he created), Juliette Gréco, Madame Pompidou, Léon Bourgeois and Princess Grace of Monaco. His works are presented in around twenty museums including that of Modern Art in the city of Paris, Marseille, Strasbourg, Besançon, Belfort, etc. And throughout the world: Lausanne, Vatican, Erlangen, Fribourg, Monaco, Skopje, Tehran, ... He is made Knight of the Legion of Honor, the National Order of Merit and the Order of Arts and Letters. Georges Oudot has received numerous awards: the Fénéon Prize for sculpture, the National Arts Prize, the Young Sculpture Prize, the Modigliani Drawing Prize; Biennial Sculpture Prize, Tribute awarded by the Critics' Prize Jury for all of his work. Georges Oudot was Edgar Faure's cultural advisor when he was president of the Franche Comté region. He participated in the creation of the CRDC, Regional Center for Cultural Diffusion of which he was president for a long time. He created the Besançon plastic arts biennial and set up the first management committee of the FRAC made up of artists and craftsmen. He left these positions abruptly without putting in place the foundations of a good policy for the acquisition of works.
