"Adrien Dekeyser (1914-1950) The Harlequin "
Adrien Dekeyser (1914-1950) L'Arlequin Oil on canvas 68 x 40 cm L'Arlequin is a work created around 1940 by the Belgian painter Adrien Dekeyser (Belgium, 1914-1950). This work, which still bears the imprint of his teacher Anto Carte, represents the characteristic universe of Adrien Dekeyser: a harmony of soft colors and a dreamlike atmosphere. Adrien Dekeyser was born in Belgium in 1914. His father worked as a dermatologist in a hospital. As part of his work, the latter has a gallery of wax hands and faces illustrating the diseases he studies. These objects have inspired the work of his son, Adrien Dekeyser, since a young age. Adrien Dekeyser began by painting landscapes and portraits. He entered the Brussels Academy in 1934 where he chose the monumental painting workshop under the direction of his teacher Anto Carte. Between 1937 and 1946, Adrien Dekeyser devoted part of his time to creating costumes and theater sets, notably for the Le Mouffetard theater. In addition to his work in theater, he also distinguishes himself in various artistic fields. He excels in the art of decoration on enamel, illustration, poetry, engraving and painting which he uses on canvas, paper, fresco or glass. We would like to thank Mrs. Nicolas Bonew for confirming the authenticity of this work.
