"Court Coat And Vest Louis XVI Period, Modified And Feminized Around 1880 "
Circa 1780-1880 France Court coat and waistcoat from the Louis XVI period, reworked and feminized around 1880 for an Amazon or a Transvestite Ball. Fitted coat or tailcoat in chiseled velvet with fine duck blue, yellow ocher and goose poop stripes with very rich polychrome silk embroidery. Complete with 27 embroidered buttons on the front, cuffs, flap pockets and on the slit tail at the back. The waist has been modified by an interior belt to amplify the clearance of the garment, creating a petticoat behind for a skirt with a twist or a pouff. Pleats and falbalas of cream crepe with modified collar and cuffs dating from the end of the 19th century. The interior lining in pale pink taffeta was changed in the 20th century because this garment was used for the Venice Carnival in the 1980s. The vest, on the other hand, in cream wholesale from Tours, densely embroidered and glittered with tinsel, has not been modified since the 18th century. The cream cotton back lacing tab is also original (small tear under the armpits). Attached to this sale are panties made in the workshops of Yves Saint Laurent dating from the 1980s, for the needs of the Venice Carnival. A return to the original state of this garment does not seem feasible to me because I was not able to check the seams under the lining. In addition, it is interesting here to see the different "lives" of this ensemble which has survived the centuries. The outfit is in excellent condition, fresh and well preserved.
