Pair of torches
Ormolu gilt bronze
Dimensions : H. 26,5 ; D. 13 (cm.)
Paris, circa 1780-1790
A pair of large neoclassical torches, the circular base decorated with palmettes and strings of pearls. The shaft is tapered and has the same motifs. The handles are vase-shaped. Superb Louis XVI period production, sand cast "en coquille" which is brazed (traces of this can be seen); the base part is a very fine cast iron which allows good quality chasing.
Condition report: minor wear from use, good preservation of the original gilding, original bobèches.
