Very beautiful molded wooden frame.
Georges Calves (1848-1923) was a French genre, animal, landscape and watercolor painter. He was a student of Daubigny, Boulanger, and Guillaumet. Calves started at the salon in 1870, and exhibited mainly landscapes, portraits and hunting scenes. He also painted pastoral scenes and horses, often depicted at work or running. His style is characterized by careful attention to detail and color, as well as composition and realism. Calves exhibited in several salons in Paris early in his career and received posthumous recognition for his work. His paintings are highly regarded and are part of art collections around the world. At the start of his career, Calves participated in several exhibitions in Paris, notably at the Salon of 1870. He also exhibited at the Société des Artistes Français in 1880 and 1881, as well as at the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts in 1890 Calves also received a bronze medal at the Paris Universal Exhibition in 1900.
