Marianne Westman (1928-2017) was born in Sweden. A Swedish designer and ceramist, she is considered one of Sweden's greatest designers of porcelain tableware. Marianne began studying ceramics in 1946 at the prestigious University College of Arts, Crafts and Design in Stockholm. After graduating in 1950, she worked at the famous Rorstrand ceramics factory in Lidköping. It was the golden age of the company, whose porcelain production enjoyed great success abroad. In the 1960s, Marianne expanded her range to artistic pieces in stoneware, chamotte and iron. The glazes are thick and complex, with iron flowers and crude structures. The shapes are simple, both rustic and elegant.
