This unusual pair of candlesticks, with three eagles placed back to back, recalls the two pairs of candlesticks delivered by the bronzier Claude Galle in 1804 for the Château de Fontainebleau. It is interesting to note that this same circular sole also appears on another pair of candlesticks delivered by Galle in 1805 also for Fontainebleau.
Claude Galle was one of the most prominent bronziers of the Empire period and received countless orders from the Garde-Meuble and is known for supplying aristocrats and members of the nobility.
