the myth:
Loved by Pan, she fled the attentions of the god, and when he was about to catch her, she was transformed into reeds, on the banks of the river Ladon, in the Peloponnese[1]. Hearing the reeds moaning in the wind, Pan thought of connecting the reeds, of unequal length, and holding them together with beeswax. In another version, the god full of fury, not finding the nymph, tears out and breaks the reeds between his fingers. Little by little, he understands what has happened, especially when his breath and his sighs animate the reed pipes and make music[2]. He thus made the first pan flute, which he called “Syrinx”, in memory of the nymph[1],[3].
