Bronze group signed and titled in a cartouche "La fortune récompense le travail par A.Gaudez hors concours (Fortune rewards work by A.Gaudez out of competition)" Total height: approximately 58 cm Adrien Étienne Gaudez (1845-1902) Sculptor, born in Lyon on February 9, 1845, died in Neuilly on January 23, 1922. Entered the Beaux-Arts in 1862, student of Jouffroy, he started at the Salon in 1864 and obtained a third class medal and a first class in 1881. Author of the Florian monument in Alais and the monument of the Children of Voges died for the Fatherland, in Remiremont. He was a prisoner of war in Magdeburg (Germany) during the Franco-Prussian War of 1870, and we owe him the monument in memory of the French prisoners of this city.
