Baroque Angel Figure, Early 16th Century, Southern Bavaria. flag

Object description :

"Baroque Angel Figure, Early 16th Century, Southern Bavaria."
Superb baroque sculpture of an Angel in majesty, with its original gilding and its original polychromy, the delicately painted face in preserved parefair and its very fine cracks characteristic of the beginning of the 16th century. Large size , 108 cms and good width of the garment, 52 cms, he raises his arm, can carry an object. The left arm is missing as well as the wings which were attached and of which we can see the fixing recesses. In heavy wood, despite this the sculptor was able to give great lightness to this angel who smiles lightly, in the delicacy of the facial features and the finesse of the execution of his gold and brown clothing. His feet rest on stylized clouds. Some slight losses on the feet but it remains in very good original condition due to its great age. It was appraised by the Hampel auction house in Munich, a specialist in Bavarian Baroque sculpture of this period.
