"Profile Of Odilon Debert, Patinated Copper Bas Relief"
Pretty bas-relief (sand casting) representing the profile of a child named Odilon Debert. Odilon is the little brother of Camille Debert (1867-1935), the sculptor who gave life to this work. Camille Debert is known for having created several war memorials commemorating the memory of the First World War and religious statues present in several churches in France. In 1891, he moved to Paris where he worked in the workshop of Jules Cavelier. He obtained an honorable mention at the Salon of French Artists of 1898. The bas-relief that I am offering you is a copper print with a brown patina. This is a unique sand cast iron. This technique allows you to bring out maximum detail in the child's hair and collar. This work is dated 1886 and signed. On the back, there is an engraved inscription evoking the story of its discovery: "Found in the ruins of the 14-18 war, portrait of Odilon Debert at 7 years old by his brother Camille." This certainly explains its ancient lead restoration. Total height: 34.5 cm total width: 28 cm Height of the copper plate: 31 cm width of the copper plate: 22.5 cm
