Louis XVI period console, in precious wood veneer. Elegant console, less than a meter wide, in precious wood veneer, topped with white marble surrounded by an openwork gallery in gilded bronze. It is quality work from the Louis XVI period, made in a Parisian workshop, this type of work is found among Parisian cabinetmakers such as Nicolas Petit maître in 1761, Claude Charles Saunier master in 1752 or even Claude Mathieu Magnien master in 1771. The console in the neoclassical taste rests on 4 tapered legs with a bronze shoe and gilded brass rings symbolizing capitals, the legs are joined in the lower part by a spacer shelf with a truncated facade, the belt with a straight facade and sides curved opens with 3 drawers, divided into 2 pivoting side drawers and a larger drawer in the center of the furniture. Built on an oak, beech and fir frame, this cabinet piece of furniture is veneered with exotic wood such as rosewood, amaranth and satin, these “island” woods are combined with native wood with composite fillets in natural and stained sycamore stylizing a wrapped torus. Dating from the 1780s, this console model was continued by the same cabinetmakers who returned to monochrome with the use of mahogany.
