"John Pettie. The Little Gourmet"
Genre painter, historical scenes and illustrator. John Pettie had considerable success as a portrait painter and sometimes depicted his sister in historical costumes. Wood describes his style as vigorous in power and richness. It shows the influence of Van Dijck and Rubens. He experimented with "Chiaroscuro" from 1870. He died in Hastings on February 21, 1893.
