In Greek mythology, Hermes was the messenger of the gods, the protector of travelers, traders and flocks.
He wears the petase (small round and flat winged hat) and the caduceus around which two snakes are coiled.
The wings on its feet allow it to move quickly and are one of its distinctive signs.
Mercury, represented as an athletic young man, is propelled into the air by a baby blower. In his enthusiasm, he raises his arm pointing to the sky, the source of divine knowledge.
The whole rests on an onyx base.
