Object description :

"Chateau De La Tour Saint Pierre De Canivet Oil On Canvas Calvados Notmandie"
Oil on canvas representing the castle of the French commune of Saint-Pierre-Canivet in the department of Calvados, in the Normandy region. The castle is partially listed as a historic monument. The castle is located 2 km southwest of the town of Saint-Pierre-Canivet, in the French department of Calvados. The castle was built from 1769 by the architect Antoine Matthieu Le Carpentier for Count Louis-François-Anne de Séran and his wife since 1757, Adélaïde de Bullioud, one of Louis XV's mistresses and with the financial assistance of the latter[1]; they are the ancestors of Count Alain de La Moussaye. The Countess of Séran very quickly made it one of the most famous meetings of writers of the time. Marmontel recalls his visit to the Tower in his Memoirs. The Tour domain is mainly occupied by the King's woods, purchased during the 19th century, which were joined to the Tour woods. Both extend to the south and west of the castle over 430 hectares.
