Measuring 59.8cm x 49.8cm excluding carved wooden frame, 79cm x 67cm in total.
Representing Two Turkish Galleys, Boats and Characters against a Background of Ships Flying Dutch Flags in Front of a Fortified City.
Marine painted around 1650 probably inspired by Venice facing the Turkish threat.
This canvas was re-fixed in the 19th century on a canvas stretcher, not re-canvased, it is stretched over another canvas (not glued).
A lack of canvas on the back (see photo) allows you to see that it is not glued and that there is a painting underneath!
The 17th century canvas has a small crack at the top left and a small accident in the center, see close-up photos.
The paint, never cleaned and dirty, is in good original condition, neither repainted nor repaired of any kind.
Small visible wear normal for a painting of this age, see photos.
In a Carved Wooden Frame from the 19th Century, in the style of Dutch frames from the 17th (you have to turn it over to see that it is not 17th). Painting in good condition.
