"Teak Showcase Commode – Late 19th Century"
This two-piece piece of furniture has a marine-style chest of drawers in the lower part. This chest of drawers opens with five drawers, namely two small at the top and three large at the bottom. All fitted with inlaid brass “boat” handles, these drawers are equipped with original functional locks with rosewood diamond entrances and fitted keys. The uprights are covered with applied half-columns and end with galette feet. The drawer interiors are in teak with central crosspieces and dust covers. This piece of furniture also has a recessed display window in the upper part, i.e. a double glass door with frame, bars and adjoining columns. Featuring an authentic working lock with entry and key, these doors are highlighted by two finely carved fleur-de-lis and acanthus leaf motifs. The interior offers two shelves, mounted on racks, with large retaining edges as well as two small drawers. This display chest of drawers will attract attention with its original style and shallow dimensions. ******** Period: Late 19th Century Excellent condition. Waxed finish on hard base.
