Watercolor painting on marine subject mid-19th century by William Newton Bartholomew. Very beautiful work in excellent original condition having retained all its freshness with a very good quality gilded wood frame, dimensions 52.5 by 43 cm. William Newton Bartholomew was a great painter of the American school born in Boston in 1822 and died in 1898 in Newton Center who participated in an expedition in 1850 1851 to California in the great west with daguerreotype processes. As such, he is considered one of the first Californian painters. Very interesting and lively work to have in a beautiful collection.
