Félix Courché, born April 20, 1863 in Paris 1st and died March 22, 1944 in Paris 10th[1], is a French painter from symbolist movement. Born on April 20, 1863 in Paris, he studied under Luigi Loir and Léon Bonnat at the École nationale des beaux-arts[2],[3]. He exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français from 1885 to 1900 and at the Salon des Indépendants from 1902[2]. In 1906, he won a bronze medal at the Universal Exhibition in Milan and, in 1925, an honorary diploma at the Exhibition of Decorative Arts. In 1926, he also took part in the Retrospective of Independents and the following year, presented the paintings Soir de fête and Enchantement then, in 1929, Doux repos[4]. He is known for having decorated numerous private mansions with monumental frescoes representing scenes combining symbolism and abstraction using massively bright colors such as red, green, and yellow. Little-known painter until around twenty years ago when buyers found archives, drawings and letters in a house detailing his life and work for the period from 1915 to 1939. Félix Courché mainly hosted Van Dongen in 1912 and other artists in his house in the 10th arrondissement near the Canal Saint Martin. The painter participated in numerous exhibitions and salons such as that of the independents in 1931, 1932, 1935, 1936, 1937[5]. The majority of Courché's works (around a hundred) have been distributed among private collections since 1975, the best known being La Naïade Appolinaire which the fashion designer Gianni Versace acquired in 1995 from a Parisian dealer for the sum of 320,000 dollars and returned in Paris in a private collection.
