"la Frileuse" Bronze Statue After Jean-antoine Houdon

La Frileuse is among the most famous works of sculptor Jean-Antoine Houdon, it is also known under the title "L'Hiver". This bronze edition was produced towards the end of the 19th century, its dimensions corresponding to the reduction (size number 1) of the Parisian foundry Barbedienne, the process of assembling the base and the quality of the carving confirming this attribution. Signed Houdon on its base, it is in good condition, the dark brown patina is original with slight wear from use. Jean-Antoine Houdon (1741/1828) considered one of the major sculptors of the Age of Enlightenment began at the age of 9 in the workshop of Jean-Baptiste Pigalle, a Rome Prize was awarded to him in 1761 and he stayed in the Italian capital almost four years.
