"Grande Statue En Bronze E. Picault "Le semeur d'idées""
Large brown patina bronze sculture signed E. Picault (Émile Louis Picault, 1833-1915) depicting an allegorical figure: "Le semeur d'idées" ("The sower of ideas"). It is marked "Salon des Beaux Arts" on the left side of the base . The following inscription is engraved on the book at the feet of the statute: "Aux quatres vents du ciel il sème les idées germes de l'avenir. EP". This is a reduction of the bronze group that Picault exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français in 1896 under the title "Le Livre". A similar model is on display at the Musée des Beaux Arts in Chambéry.
Émile Louis Picault was a sculptor and medalist in Paris, and a pupil of the painter Royer. From 1863, he regularly exhibited allegorical subjects (patriotic or mythological heroes) at the Salon des Beaux Arts. His works are often accompanied by phrases in Latin or French.
