Henri Barnoin 1882-1940 Emblematic painter of Brittany and prolific artist, he was born in Paris in an artistic environment, located at 37, rue Madame. He was a student of Luc-Olivier Merson at the École des Beaux- Arts of Paris, his true master and inspiration will be Émile Charles Dameron, it is to him that he owes his taste for the always very lively port and market scenes. He exhibited for the first time at the 1909 Salon and obtained an honorable mention, he won the silver medal in 1921 and the gold medal in 1935. An excellent colorist, he liked to play with light effects, sometimes described as a A post-impressionist painter, he frees himself from the conventional classic and gives us an original vision of the many places and subjects offered by picturesque Brittany between the wars. A tireless worker, he became an official Navy Painter in 1926 and enjoyed undeniable success. He died in Paris in the prime of his life at 57.
