"Lithographed Plates Album Vilmorin Bouquets Of Flowers Painted By Elisa Champin 12 Plates"
Suite of 12 plates numbered from 1 to 12 representing bouquets of varied polychrome flowers from the late 19th century They were painted by Elisa Champin between 1851 and 1862 for the album Vilmorin-Andrieux, grainiers installed on the Quai de la Mégisserie in Paris These plates were by the continued lithographed under the direction of Elisa Champin These are bouquets of flowers in shimmering and fresh colors with very discreet numbers under each variety represented In fact these plates were intended to present month by month the varieties of flowers that the grain merchants sold in bags of seeds A beautiful color plate was much more representative of a variety of flowers than an inscription on a bag and therefore much more "salesy" At the bottom of each plate is the usual name of each flower as well as its Latin name, this was practical because at that time there was only the Latin name written on the seed packets. Each number is almost invisible to those who are not aware of these explanations and this discretion was made in order not to harm the beauty of the bouquet Set in very good general condition Framed boards Very large format Very beautiful set which could decorate an entrance, a corridor, a winter garden.... h: 62.8 cm width: 50.8 cm View: 47 x 59 cm
