Pewter truncated conical DINNER HOLDER with central grip lid and dangling handle with cherub head attachments.
Hallmark of Claude François BOUVIER active from 1835.

This object was used by shepherds and field workers, daily workers, etc.
There were several sizes, the number of which varied depending on the production centers, from 4 to 6.
The shapes of these dinner holders vary, they are truncated conical in Burgundy, pomiform in Ile-de-France, flared in Anjou...the attachments of the handles, depending on the region, feature cherub heads, rosettes, fleurons, human masks. ..etc
Among the BOUVIER in CLAMECY, we see small variations in the number of curls in the hair of the cherubs' heads
