"19th Century Fencing Mask, Black Leather"
It is a fencing mask dating from the 19th century. The shape of these masks is different from actual masks, the front face having a central ridge. Few of these masks have been preserved, and generally when one comes across one it is in a lamentable state. The condition here is very acceptable. Of course the leather parts have dried and have small cracks which are not very noticeable but this gives the object the charm of old things. The black leather is in good condition, it is not unstitched, which is rare.
The part which is placed behind the head is made up of a double steel bar ending on a cushion covered in leather
. A cushion covered in leather protects the chin
Nice object which should delight a collector on the theme of fencing.
